  • Wow! I attended the Cuaucalli Seminar in Dallas last month and it was awesome. I have known and trained with Mr Cantu since 1997. So when i saw this negative review of him online i felt compelled to share my thoughts. He is more than qualified to teach his own system as many instructors do this across the globe. There are literally thousands of martial arts styles. So naming his own style is standard for instructors of his caliber and tenure. The Cuaucalli system is a martial arts tribute to the Aztecs. Mr Cantu has always stated and that it was never something passed down but more of a recognition of the fighting warrior schools the Aztecs were know to have. That I know of, he has produced national and world champions from his dojo in Baytown. His younger brother and himself have won world championships in the sport of karate as well. If you have ever trained with him you know he teaches very well and is kind to all his students. I would recommend him to everyone and anyone inter

  • We first signed our son up for bjj at Cantu Martial Arts. We emphasized that we wanted bjj but for some reason he was entered into some type of self manufactured (Cuaucall) Mexican/Aztec karate. It is something Joseph Cantu created himself. He also qualifies himself as a blackbelt in this imaginary art. Anyway, after a couple of years of this strange “make-believe” martial art my son knows nothing but a few bjj moves. The story starts when I wanted to try bjj. He offered a discount if father and son joined. My wife obtained a blank contract and signed me up. Joseph Cantu stated that he would fill in 'the blanks.' Yes, this was our fault for trusting him and yes that was stupid. He lied and apparently 2 year term was added. Now he has turned me in to the credit agencies. I thought I would let everyone know, that he is a sub-par instructor and you may not want to trust his word. In the last 3 months my son was diagnosed with autism and my daughter with a rare seizure disorder. Jose

  • This guy is a great instructor. He's reinforcing self discipline and respect that my husband and i believe in.We keep bringing them every week and they get better every month. He's (Cantu) obviously been doing this along time and is a true professional. My kids love it there!
